The powerful earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture<\/strong> at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday<\/strong>, causing widespread structural damage across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands Evacuated After Powerful Quake<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Officials in Kumamoto confirmed that 9,872 people<\/strong> have moved to emergency shelters following overnight rescue and evacuation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earthquake also disrupted essential services across the affected areas. Authorities reported that nearly 36,700 households<\/strong> remain without electricity as repair crews work to restore power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency officials continue assessing damaged buildings while rescue teams search areas where people may still be trapped under debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Services Disrupted Across Kyushu<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The earthquake severely affected transportation across Kyushu<\/strong>, one of Japan’s four main islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan Railways suspended train services after inspectors found damage to railway infrastructure. Public broadcaster NHK<\/strong> reported that seven passengers<\/strong> suffered injuries aboard a bullet train during the earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some passengers also spent the entire night inside stranded trains because damaged tracks prevented railway operators from safely moving the trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resident Describes Terrifying Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sean Wilson, a Scottish resident living in Kumamoto, described the earthquake as one of the most frightening experiences of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to the BBC, Wilson said this was his second major earthquake in the region within the past decade, following the devastating 2016 Kumamoto earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although he believed the overall destruction appeared less severe than the 2016 disaster, he described the shaking as extremely intense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
