The 49th BCS excluded candidates<\/strong> are demanding answers after the final gazette left out 57 people the Public Service Commission (PSC) had recommended. The government appointed 611 candidates to the education cadre on September 30, 2026. Yet it gave no reason for dropping the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, several excluded candidates have spoken to the media and posted on social media. Their stories differ, but they share one question: why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the 49th BCS Gazette Did<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The PSC published the final result on November 11 last year, provisionally nominating 668 candidates against 683 vacant posts. More than 312,000 candidates had applied, and 1,219 passed the MCQ-based written exam. channelionline<\/a>tbsnews<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the final gazette included only 611 names. The gazette did not mention why the government excluded the 57 provisionally selected candidates. Meanwhile, the appointed officers must join by October 12. lightnewsbd<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excluded Candidates Who Topped Their Subjects<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Strikingly, several excluded candidates ranked first in their subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdullah Al Mamun Belal says he ranked first in Social Welfare but his name did not appear in the gazette. He also questioned whether his role in the July movement played a part. tbsnews<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, Sohel Rana ranked first in History. He says he has no case or general diary against him, and that neither he nor his family had any link with student politics or the Awami League. starnews<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Ahmmad Ullah, a former Accounting student at the University of Dhaka, ranked first in his merit list. He says his father is a retired police officer and no one in his family was involved in politics. shikshasangbad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gopalganj Candidates Allege District Bias<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The largest single group comes from one district. Reports say 9 of the 11 provisionally selected candidates from Gopalganj did not make it into the gazette. shikshasangbad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The excluded Gopalganj candidates include Md. Nurnobi Sheikh, Ahmmad Ullah, Sohag Mondol, Biplob Barai, Sheikh Arafat Kabir, Bushra Jahan, Md. Sajjad Hossain, Shafiqul Islam, and Md. Rakibul Islam. Most are former students of the University of Dhaka and the University of Barishal. shikshasangbad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, Nurnobi Sheikh says he joined the July movement. He wrote that despite being from Gopalganj, he stood on the front line of the movement and even guarded Dhaka through the night afterward. shikshasangbad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bushra Jahan Oishi, a former English student, points to a gap in the list. She ranked 14th in English, and she says the candidates ranked 13th and 15th made the gazette while she did not. tbsnews<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Rakibul Islam is not sure about the cause. He says his father, a day laborer and carpenter, worked hard to educate the family. He adds that the family has no political ties, and that only the authorities can explain his exclusion. shikshasangbad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family Politics and Police Verification<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

One candidate links his case directly to his family. Redwan Ahmed Tahmid, a University of Dhaka Islamic Studies student, believes he lost his place in police verification because his father is involved in local Jamaat politics. ittefaq<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tahmid says officials asked him during verification whether any family member was in politics, and he honestly said his father was. He adds that his file had nothing else that could justify his exclusion. ittefaq<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More broadly, excluded candidates claim that most of them lost out because of intelligence screening or police verification, but they have received no clear explanation of the allegations against them. bayanno<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political Reactions to the 49th BCS Excluded Candidates<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The issue has also drawn political criticism. DUCSU Vice President Sadiq Kayem criticized the government, alleging that candidates who topped merit lists and took part in the July movement were removed from the gazette. What the Rules Say About Exclusion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Under current rules, the government does have some room to act. The BCS Recruitment Rules, 1981 allow authorities to consider health unfitness or criminal matters. However, experts object to excluding anyone only for political identity or links. bayanno<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, this problem is not new. Under the previous government, many PSC-recommended candidates were also dropped for reasons including police verification. prothomalo<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Comes Next for the 49th BCS Excluded Candidates<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There is a recent example of a second chance. After the 43rd BCS, the ministry allowed all 227 temporarily excluded candidates to apply for reconsideration after protests. newagebd<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, though, the 57 candidates have no official answer. Neither the PSC nor the Ministry of Public Administration has explained the exclusions. Living Arcade will update this story when the authorities respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
