China’s top diplomat has said that thorough preparation and a stable environment will be necessary before a planned meeting between the leaders of China and the United States can take place.
Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the importance of communication between the world’s two largest economies. He said both sides should work to manage risks and reduce misunderstandings before high-level talks move forward.
According to Wang, discussions about future exchanges between the two countries are already underway. However, he noted that both governments must carefully prepare and remove potential obstacles that could affect the meeting.
The possible talks would involve Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump. After their previous face-to-face meeting in Asia last year, both leaders signaled interest in visiting each other’s countries to strengthen diplomatic ties.
The United States has indicated that President Trump may travel to China in late March for a state visit. Beijing, however, has not yet officially confirmed the exact dates of the trip.
Some analysts believe the visit could be affected by rising geopolitical tensions, particularly the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The situation has complicated diplomatic discussions and increased uncertainty around international relations.
During his remarks, Wang also emphasized that cooperation between China and the United States remains important for global stability. He warned that turning away from dialogue could lead to misunderstandings and conflict, which would have wider consequences for the world.
China has also continued to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East conflict. Wang said wars and military confrontations only increase instability and do not benefit any country.
In recent days, the Chinese foreign minister has spoken with several counterparts from different nations in an effort to discuss the growing tensions and encourage diplomatic solutions.
The remarks came during China’s annual parliamentary meetings in Beijing, where national leaders gather to discuss policy and economic priorities.
Trade relations remain another key issue between the two countries. Last year, the United States and China reached a temporary agreement to reduce tariffs on each other’s goods after a period of escalating trade tensions.
Economic officials from both countries are expected to hold further talks in the coming days to explore possible business agreements that could be announced if the leaders’ meeting goes ahead.
Wang also rejected the idea that global leadership should be dominated by only two countries. Instead, he said the world is moving toward a more balanced international system involving multiple major powers.
He warned that creating new trade barriers or attempting to separate global technology supply chains could harm economic cooperation and ultimately create more problems than solutions.
Despite ongoing disagreements, Wang said continued dialogue remains the best path forward for both countries and for global stability.
