Delhi Protest 2026 Continues Despite Police Crackdown

The Delhi Protest 2026 continued on Tuesday as demonstrators returned to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, just one day after violent clashes with police. Protest organizers said they would continue their movement until the government responds to their key demands, despite a meeting with senior officials that ended without a firm commitment.

The renewed demonstrations have added fresh political pressure on the central government as tensions remain high in the Indian capital.

Protesters Return to Jantar Mantar

Early Tuesday morning, hundreds of demonstrators gathered once again at Jantar Mantar, the main protest site in New Delhi.

According to local media reports, police had removed protest tents and temporary structures following Monday’s clashes. However, protesters returned the following morning and reoccupied the area.

Delhi Police and RAF deployed heavy security around the protest venue to prevent further unrest.

Monday’s Protest Turned Violent

The latest demonstrations follow Monday’s “March to Parliament” campaign, which attracted thousands of students and activists.

The protest resulted in clashes between demonstrators and security forces after participants attempted to move toward Parliament despite restrictions.

Police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse the crowd, while protesters accused officers of using excessive force against peaceful participants.

Authorities reported that the violence injured more than 100 police officers and over 60 protesters.

Police detained around 70 protesters and opened a criminal investigation into allegations of violence and property damage.

Protest Leaders Reject Government Appeal

Following the unrest, India’s Union Health Minister JP Nadda held talks with representatives of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

During the meeting, protest leaders presented three key demands:

1. Remove all movement restrictions on activist Sonam Wangchuk.
2. Secure the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
3. Provide compensation of 10 million rupees to the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the reported 2026 NEET examination paper leak.

After the meeting, CJP spokesperson Sourav Das said the minister promised to raise the issues with the appropriate authorities but did not offer any concrete assurances.

As a result, organizers announced they would continue the peaceful demonstrations until authorities meet their demands

Sonam Wangchuk Extends Hunger Strike

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk also announced that he would continue his hunger strike.

In a handwritten message shared by his wife, Wangchuk said he would not end the fast until young protesters are allowed to meet members of Parliament or until authorities permit them to visit him at the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

He also expressed solidarity with the demonstrators and criticized what he described as the harsh treatment of peaceful protesters.

Political Pressure Continues to Grow

Political analysts believe the Delhi Protest 2026 could become one of the biggest domestic political challenges facing the Indian government this year.

With demonstrations continuing in the capital and negotiations producing no immediate breakthrough, authorities are preparing for more gatherings in the coming days.
